As The Fog Rolls In...
Like I might have mentioned in a previous edition, you get your full money's worth of all four seasons up here. And along with the snow or the sunshine is the occasional threat of fog.
Fog so thick that you can't see the driveway from the front door.
It can last for days and tracks from your front door all the way down the mountain.
Roads close, and appointments are canceled, while common sense dictates that you stay home.
But there are risks to just staying at home as well, so, as with everything else up here, get your ducks in a row.
As The Fog Rolls In
It's been foggy up here for the past few days. I like the fog. It gets me out of doing stuff.
These are the kind of days that beg for a morning fireplace, fresh coffee, and seeing what's happening on the morning news.
Let's kick the tires on this o'l fireplace and see what she's got because when the fog starts rolling in, I plan on being non-movable and toasty.
The fine art of procrastination goes hand in hand with the fog when it starts rolling in, as work projects are easily moved to the back burner.
“So I take it you're not going into town today?" She said as the inquest began from the hallway.
“Or stack some wood, fix the shed’s door, fix the squeaks, or replace the window screen?” she continued as she entered the living room.
It’s funny how many thoughts race through the mind when seconds matter…
It's too foggy and slippery to mess with that woodpile, and that old shed door can wait.
We are flat out of WD-40 (is that even possible?), and that window screen looks like it will last another winter.
It certainly isn't the kind of day to be driving around for anything.
Nope, procrastination is the word for the day. Everything can wait. This is a morning for a blazing fireplace, fresh coffee, and news. Nothing more.
“No need hun, not today,” was my only reply.
"Whatever, you better get your ass down there tomorrow, old man,” was the o’l girls battle cry that echoed down the same hallway as she returned to where she was, content in the knowledge that she was once again, correct.
I do love her understanding of my love for the fine art of procrastination.
Well, the news is calling for more fog tomorrow, and I don’t have the heart to let her know, so you all go on and have a good day, with or without the fog.
God Bless.
Thanks for listening.
The fog was a two-day event followed by warmer air, so things are finally changing up here.
The wildlife is moving with the bears awake and big cats making their presence known while the hummingbirds have also made their return.
Along with the wildlife, the good weather brings weekend visitors of the human variety, which can be a challenge by itself.
We’ll talk about that later, but in the meantime, please enjoy my…
Photo of the week:
First one, then two curious fawns make their introductions to our cat. The rest of the herd is just out of frame while we all watch this introduction together.
Late last fall, this same herd kept their distance as the Doe taught the fawns a lesson about what to avoid.
The above photo taken this week shows the progression of the herd’s approval.
We have bobcats and mountain lions that frequent the area, so the Doe’s kept the herd far enough away to avoid danger until they figured it out.
These fawns are late bloomers from last year but still a joy to watch.
Well, that was worth a few moments of your time, wasn’t it?
Thank you for dropping by, and I look forward to talking with you again next Thursday before high noon, Mountain time.
In the meantime, share this with some friends.
Thank you.
